iceland: the land of fire and ice

when it comes to incentive travel, iceland consistently tops the charts of desired places to visit. the land of fire and ice has a whole host of exciting activities paired with high-end dining and comfortable, spacious hotels. we recently managed a 4 night programme for one of our retail clients, here’s a snippet of what they got up to:

whale watching in reykjavik
after landing into kef airport in the late afternoon, the group travelled to reykjavik for their first night, staying at the 1920’s inspired hotel borg. they were given the evening at leisure to explore the local area, which given its light until 11pm, worked nicely. the next morning they were up early and headed to the harbour for a morning of whale watching on rib boats where the expert tour guides knew all the best spots. we were lucky enough to see hump backs and minke whales!

after lunch at the fish company, one of reykjavik’s most renowned restaurants, we arranged for a private transfer to hotel geysir, located in the countryside and around a 1.5 hour transfer.

snowmobiling on the langjokull
iceland’s second largest glacier is langokull, and the setting of tuesdays activities. we arranged for the group to be collected in super jeeps and taken on an offroad adventure up to the top of the glacier, where they were greeted with snowmobiles. an unforgettable experience, the snowmobile tour lasted around an hour, zig zagging around the mountains and stopping for some pictures along the way. after lunch, the super jeeps stopped off at the gulfoss waterfalls and at an icelandic pony sanctuary – a truly memorable day which brought many smiles and a tonne of selfies!

lava tubes & blue lagoons
on route back to reykjavik, we planned a stop off at the lava tunnel – an exciting tour where everyone is kitted up with helmets and torches. this activity gives you the opportunity to explore the inner workings of a volcanic eruption, this was again a real highlight for our group.

then, before heading to the airport, we planned a final stop off at the blue lagoon. one of the 25 wonders of the world, the 38 degree geothermal water is said to be good for the skin and have relaxing and rejuvenating properties. the perfect way to round off a memorable trip!
