07 Dec The floating journey – GOOD HOTEL London
THE GOOD STORY
The good hotel is a hotel like no other in London. Their concept is simple and yet unique, with its profits going directly back into the business, which offers training and jobs to long-term unemployed people in the local community.
This converted floating barge has quite the story and has had quite the journey. Starting out as a detention centre in Amsterdam it was later transformed into the ‘GOOD HOTEL’ where it stayed docked for 12 months welcoming tourists, as well as training and employing around 100 long-term unemployed young people.
It was then time for a new chapter, in 2016 the floating hotel set sail for London, where it now resides on the Royal Victoria Docks. Working with the borough of Newham, the ‘GOOD HOTEL’ trains and employ’s workers from the local community, with their aim being to train 15 new people every month.
THE GOOD HOTEL
The hotel design is charmingly industrial, combining classic Dutch style with custom made pieces and cherry-picked furnishings. The open plan ground floor known as the ‘living room’ which is a bar, reception and library in one offers a comfortable break out environment for guests to enjoy. The meeting spaces are available in a range of sizes and are a blank canvas; all come with Projectors or a screen, and the hotel is very flexible when it comes to what the client wants to do with the space, they will always endeavour to accommodate all requests no matter how wonderfully weird.
The bedrooms, small in size but cosy in nature are delightfully decorated with peaceful views across the Thames out the expansive window. The hotel has a total of 148 bedrooms with 4 junior suites.
The roof is a private space that will have guests in awe. Boasting panoramic views of London’s Canary Wharf and the River Thames; this private space is perfect for summer cocktail receptions and networking events.
